- Why does it sound fast and slow at once?
- Because drums and bass occupy two different tempo layers. The kit is cut fast at 174 BPM while the bass and chords move at half that rate. The ear takes its sense of tempo from the bass, so the whole thing feels steady while the detail races.
- What matters most in the prompt?
- Spell out both layers: "174 BPM fast breakbeat kit, bass and harmony in half-time, deep sub-bass." Asking only for 174 BPM tends to make the bass fast too, which turns the result noisy and weightless.
- Where do I cut when scoring picture?
- Cut to the bass and the snare, not the racing hi-hat. The snare on two and four is the steadiest anchor, and the instant of the drop is the strongest available turn — worth saving for a key shot.
