- What separates it from four-on-the-floor dance music?
- Where the kick sits. House and techno put the kick on every beat for an even tread; breakbeat rearranges kick and snare and pulls the accents off the grid, so the feel lunges forward instead. That single choice sets the character of the whole track.
- How do I describe it so I don't get house?
- State it plainly: "no four-on-the-floor kick, syncopated breakbeat drum loop, repositioned snare, accents off the grid." Systems default to a four-on-the-floor when asked only for dance music, and putting the drum description first in the prompt works best.
- What footage does it suit?
- Images with speed and direction — sport, racing, street. Displaced accents create a sense of rushing ahead, and cutting to those accents gives an edit real drive. The irregular pulse works poorly against slow motion or lyrical imagery.
