- Why does slowness make it heavier?
- Slow tempo gives each chord full time to vibrate and decay, letting low-frequency energy release completely, while the silence between notes creates oppressive anticipation. At speed the low end never fully develops and paradoxically sounds thinner. That is the core principle of doom.
- What usually goes wrong when generating it?
- It is not slow enough. Systems default to fast when they hear metal, so you must specify "50–70 BPM, extremely slow, chords fully sustained, sparse drum hits." Asking only for "slow metal" typically still returns something over 100 BPM.
- How does doom differ from sludge?
- Sludge adds hardcore punk's grit and rage on top of doom's slowness, with dirtier tone, hoarser vocals and a more volatile mood. Doom stays more stately, closer to tragic grandeur, with comparatively cleaner tone.
