- Disco or funk — what actually changes?
- Funk hammers The One and keeps the groove deliberately uneven and sticky. Disco spreads the kick evenly across all four beats so nobody has to hunt for it, then adds strings and octave bass to make the room feel large. Funk makes you twist; disco makes you move in formation.
- What does generated disco usually miss?
- Strings and open hats. Plenty of outputs deliver four-on-the-floor and nothing else, which lands as generic dance music. Spell out all three of 'rising unison string lines', 'hi-hat opening on every offbeat' and 'octave-leaping bassline' — nearly all of disco's identity lives there.
- How do I get an extended version rather than a radio edit?
- Specify the arrangement in bars: '32-bar instrumental intro, breakdown to drums and congas for 16 bars after the second chorus, then the full band returns', plus 'total length over six minutes'. Left unspecified, you will get a three-and-a-half-minute edit every time.
