- How is dark ambient different from post-industrial?
- One keeps a pulse and the other refuses it. Post-industrial holds a loopable rhythmic skeleton: metal hits land where you can count them and sections advance by repetition. Dark ambient removes the pulse entirely, spaces every event irregularly, and substitutes sustained low-end pressure for rhythm. Pick post-industrial when the cue has to hit picture; pick dark ambient for unbroken atmosphere.
- My prompts keep returning film-score cues. How do I stop that?
- Words like horror or dark tend to summon tremolo strings and a crescendo, which is scoring, not this style. Lead with exclusions — "no drums, no strings, no melodic line, no crescendo or climax" — then add the material you want: "sustained low drone, sparse metallic scrape, very long reverb tails." Here, naming what to leave out does more work than naming what to include.
- The results sound empty, as if nothing is happening.
- Give the model detail at both ends of the spectrum and leave the middle open: "very low frequencies swelling slowly" plus "fine high-frequency scrape and hiss." Then supply a rate of change, such as "a shift in density roughly every 30 seconds." Without those two instructions, generation tends to settle into a single static pad.
