- Why is the harpsichord such a signature here?
- It was the central keyboard of the baroque era, with a bright granular attack and no ability to vary dynamics by touch. That mechanical precision is the audible marker of baroque aesthetics, so naming the harpsichord in a prompt establishes the style almost instantly.
- How does counterpoint show up in a pop song?
- As a second independent melody running against the vocal rather than a bed of chords beneath it. Ask for "strings or woodwinds carrying an independent contrapuntal line that answers the vocal instead of following it" — this is the core arranging move of the genre.
- Doesn't the style sound dated?
- That depends on production. Period instruments plus period recording will indeed sound historical, but applying baroque writing to modern timbres — a synthesizer playing the contrapuntal line, for instance — yields something both intricate and current. Ask for that hybrid explicitly.
