- How do I tell alternative pop from indie pop?
- Indie pop describes a production temperament — low budget, intimate, unpolished. Alternative pop describes musical transgression — harmony, structure and timbre breaking convention. A song can be both, but indie names an attitude while alternative names a method.
- How do I prompt for "strange but still listenable"?
- Make the strangeness concrete: "a beat of silence before the chorus," "bridge modulates out of key," "glitch artifacts and unconventional samples," while explicitly keeping "catchy melody, clear vocal." Asking only for "alternative" tends to produce noise rather than pop.
- Does it work for commercial projects?
- It suits brands chasing distinctiveness. It sticks in memory better than mainstream pop and remains far more approachable than experimental music. Match it to context, though — mass-market promotional work is still safer with straight pop.
