- How is bluegrass different from country?
- By its forces and by what holds the pulse. Country has a drum kit, electric guitar and pedal steel, produced in a modern way. Bluegrass is entirely acoustic with no kit, its pulse carried by the mandolin chop on two and four together with the bass, and the banjo roll as its signature. Hearing a drum kit almost always means it is not bluegrass.
- What are the key prompt terms?
- "Fully acoustic lineup, five-string banjo in three-finger rolls, mandolin chopping on two and four, fiddle and guitar trading solos, no drum kit, 150 BPM, tight high harmony." Write "no drum kit" explicitly — systems add drums by default, and once they do the result turns into country rock.
- Why does it sound so fast?
- Because the three-finger banjo roll is a continuous stream of eighths or sixteenths, so even at a moderate tempo it creates a dense impression. For something slower that still reads as bluegrass, ask for "medium tempo, banjo using a sparser roll pattern."
